Arrow AA Thoughts For The Day

Daily Reprieve

"It is easy to let up on the spiritual program of action
and rest on our laurels.
We are headed for trouble if we do,
for alcohol is a subtle foe.
We are not cured of alcoholism.
What we really have is a daily reprieve
contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition."

Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 85

Thought to Consider . . .

The road to recovery is always under construction.

Contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition

I can wake up ask God to keep me sober, read pages 86-88, and spend time with God in the morning but be drinking over anger, of fill in the blank by the afternoon.

I am realizing that in those times when I returned to drinking, I would think to myself....I asked God to keep me sober, but drank anyway.

I did not cease fighting, or pause when agitated. I went from anger to drunk. My solution to problems...drinking.

And then I have more problems. And I step on the toes of others, and I destroy relationships, and myself in the process.

I need to start incorporating the instructions of maintenance so that I can strengthen the reprieve.

I heard Mark H. on part two of his Cabo talk yesterday, and he was saying about how the book tells us what to do. Watch, ask, pause, turn, cease, move, etc....because at certain times we will have no mental defense.

Driven to drink.

I talked about that with my sponsor but she said, we just find an excuse to drink, we aren't driven to drink.

Like it's a choice.

I don't know...lately, I feel driven, and I hope to turn the spiral around.

I am too sensitive. I open my mouth when I shouldn't. My reactions are extreme.

Thanks for letting me share.

In case anyone wants to listen to Mark H. talk about this maintenance...the link to part 2 of Mark H. in Cabo is below.
