| Seeing Other AA Members Drunk In Public...
I was stopped at a long red light today, it's 90+ degrees hot/humid, and the usual man with a cardboard sign asking for money came shuffling to my window. It was a former AA member & friend who was sober for several years, relapsed bad & was rumored dead. He was obviously intoxicated & didn't even recognized me. I gave him a $1 and I know it's probably going to go to alcohol/crack. There was a Salvation Army blocks away that has free treatment. He knows where the help is, where our clubhouse is, where the sober living houses are ect.... It's sad but I believe some folks accept that they are going to die drinking/using. I wanted to offer him a ride to the hospital/rehab/meeting but didn't. I regret that now that I'm going to sleep in a nice bed.

I think we can both look back at our histories, remember how bad we were, and know there's always hope J41. Hopefully this guy will get a moment of clarity again ![]() prayers for your friend. D

I have similar experiences all to frequently as my town isn't that big and the homeless hang out downtown. its sad. saw someone this morning walking the streets at 8am. he had just picked up a year 3 weeks ago. now hes wanted by the law, homeless, and obviously unemployed. crazy it all went down the tubes that fast. sad reminder.

You handled that well Just...... As I was reading that post I was wondering where it was going. Again......glad it went the way it did. You did the right thing and seem to be on the right path.

I'll never forget what Dave F. shared on handling this scenario...he hands them a $10 or a $20 and says, "God bless you, hope this helps get you back to the rooms quicker."
