| I like the saying when it is worded in such a way that it does not imply a struggle. We live life ODAAT. We have a daily reprieve ODAAT. We stay spiritually fit ODAAT. However, it was at least a couple of years before I realized that most people were not meaning it as "white-knuckling it ODAAT" as I originally thought. IMO saying it in such a way as to imply "Don't drink even if your a$$ falls off ODAAT" turns it into a temporized message. Alcoholics of my type can't simply choose to "not-drink ODAAT" and to imply that is as good as it gets, does us more harm than good. As long as I thought sobriety was a never ending struggle, I though sobriety sucked. The moment I had a Spiritual Awakening, I realized recovery was the opposite of struggle. It was a liberation.

when I first got to AA,it meant staying sober today. I thought that was neat and I thought I could do it. Today,it means living in today,in the here and now and not worrying about tomorrow or fretting over yesterday |

The Big Book says we get "a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition".
