Charlie Parmley of Joe and Charlie tapes passed away

I got this today from Bob D. in Las Vegas...

a man passed away last night that has carried a message to 100's of thousands of us all over the world- he was a great messenger, a tireless servant, and a dear dear friend. he carried the message of the big book and keep it alive in a time when most of our fellowship had lost touch with our basic principals-charlie p. - your effect has been felt- your footprint has been left- and i thank you

He's referring to Charlie Parker......

I listen to him every day. Sorry to hear this. I can hear his voice in my mind right now. :)

Any talk of when or where memorial services might be?

Not that I've seen......yet

Heck, I didn't even have his name right. According to a couple "aa based websites" last name was really "Parmley" not "parker" as I typed it above.

Charlie Parmley .. I assume we are talking about the same guy?

He carried the BB message to me via audio recording. RIP.

There is a Charlie P. that is Parker whose tapes are out there. He was sponsored by Mark H. He has a powerful story too.

CarolD 04-21-2011 07:13 PM

I;m thinking this was not the orginal Charlie in the
Joe and Charlie workshops...that he replaced another Charlie.

Not that it matters....both have done a lot of good.
Yes...he will be remembered with gratitude by many.

God Bless

This guy carried the message more effectively than anyone I have ever heard. what an honor..

My growth in the program was no doubt due, in large part, to the Joe and Charlie studies. What a blessing they have been to all of us. I can't wait to meet these guys when I get to the 'big meeting in the sky'. Like the book says..."We shall be with you in the Fellowship of the Spirit, and you will surely meet some of us as you trudge the Road of Happy Destiny. May God bless you and keep you - until then." They sure did give freely to us all.

Charlie Parmley is the only Charlie of "Joe and Charlie". If Bob D is referring to Charlie Parker, then its not the same guy. And the title of this thread should be changed.

Sorry to be nitpicking. But lets find out which Charlie we are talking about here. This thread is already showing up on Google search under Charlie Parmley.

DayTrader 04-22-2011 04:34 AM

Wow...this is getting confusing - I apologize for that.

.... It's Charlie Parmley of Joe and Charlie - the mistake in the original post was MY MISTAKE I meant to type Parmley, not Parker.

I've asked a Mod to edit my original post to clear up the confusion. ;)

I'm new to this forum, I just joined to pass on the following:

From my email chains:

Last night we lost the second 1/2 of a legacy. Charlie Parmley passed away last night about midnight after suffering a massive heart attack.

He and Joe McQ. (original Joe) and Joe McC. touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. His understanding of the Big Book, and his way of interpreting it in a way an average drunk could understand it was amazing. They say that when the student is ready... the teacher will appear! Last night we lost a great teacher. Please say a prayer for Barbara and his children.

Also:

Just got a call from Barbara Parmley....Charlie died last night of a heart attack. Charlie turned 82 yrs. old on the 8th of April. They lived in Maysville, AR.

The funeral will be at Mt. Herman Church in Jay, OK. on Tues. from 2-4 pm. There will also be a viewing on Mon. night.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be sent to The House of Hope in Jay, OK. They have a website. www . houseofhope . com

From just another Recovered Alcoholic,

Lee
