| same planet...different world | So this sober drunk goes into a liquor store ...
... and they give her a job! LOL! Three months later - they put the sober drunk in charge of ordering new liquor and setting up a wine department. You know, when they say, you can't know now where you'll be in a year, what Spirit has in mind for you ... ... I never woulda imagined I'd be working in a liquor store and enjoying myself! I mean, it's not like I don't know the product, right? The owner told me the other day that I know more about liquor it's origin, the making process, where it sells best all that stuff better than our local sales reps! I answered well, it's not like there's much in here I didn't throw up at one point or other in my career. But I was that kind of bartender as well. Knowing the science behind it and all. Of course it didn't slow me in the dying process... When I interviewed for this job the owner asked me what kind of problem was I going to have with people who still drank ... -?- I told him what or how other people drink is none of my business. But if someone asks for my help I was going to give it to the best of my ability. I recently learned he said he had a healthy respect for me because I told him that in the interview and that's the result he's gotten from me as an employee. The being so knowledgeable is just a bonus to him. I truly enjoy watching the people who come in and stare at the shelves for almost an hour looking for something that will sit on their shelves for the rest of the year. That, to me, is a rare animal. I'm always utterly fascinated by them. And I enjoy helping them find something they will enjoy ... for a LONG time, apparently. On the other hand, I've had a great many of my old customers come in. Some of them I was able to do an amends right on the spot and that is always wonderful. The primary thing I see is my reputation before my crash has been re-established. Has been given back to me. Whatever. I have a good reputation as an honorable person again. That is a wonderful gift. It's amazing where the Universe puts us. Every day, the prayer is - how can I be of service? Thy will, not mine. By the Grace of the Infinite and the Program of Alcoholics Anonymous I am grateful on this birthday. (biological b'day, that is) Of myself; I am nothing.

I should mention - I also see a good many people I knew in the rooms as well. I don't often see them more than once, however. But - at least they know where I am if they need me.

First, Barb, Happy Birthday!! Second...wow, we sure don't know, do we? My husband's sponsor is a bartender--has been since he was about fifteen minutes sober (which was almost twenty years ago). The bar where he drank, where he panhandled, where he found his bottom is the only place out of many, many he applied to that (took pity on him) and offered him a job. He was grateful to have the work, and he says it gives him a lot of gratitude -- and perspective -- still. Glad you're having a good time. Peace & Love, Sugah

Thanks Sugah! yes, there's a few sober bartenders in our community as well - but I can't go there. It's the whole olfactory thing and when people come into the liquor store - they're sober. In fact it's company policy that we can't sell to anyone who's drunk. I wish I COULD ... I dearly miss the MONEY. LOL!

Congrats Barb! You sure have proven your spiritual health! ![]() I imagine that you can spread a whole lot of hope, to show the newcomers that they can be truly free, and that they wont have to avoid all triggers out there(if they first do the work). Keep up the good work! ![]() Quote:
