Last week, about 10 of us took a road trip to a small community west of here to check out their AA meeting. There were only 3 old-timers there & they were so happy to see us (man, they had good coffee & cake!). They didn’t read from the Big Book (as they usually do) but instead, we went around the table and answered the question “how did you get to AA?” The shares were from 5 to 15 minutes long & the meeting took two hours (again, not their usual practice). The shares absolutely blew me away. There were people in the room that I have known since I joined AA but I did not know their story. All different, all the same. I really feel that I left for that meeting with 10 acquaintances & I returned with 10 friends (plus the three old-timers who we will visit again). Just something a little different.
