Bad dream about AA

Hi guys,

I had a bad dream about AA last night. I dreamed you weren't sober unless you read the "pass it on" book. I know it's crazy. LOL

I wonder if its my insecurities. I went out for coffee last night for the first time with a bunch of people from the meeting. Now for the longest time these people have made me nervous and intimidated. Most of them have 20+ years of sobriety and are very involved in AA with Intergroup, District, and Area meetings. Now that I'm in Intergroup and I'm the schedule person I figured i should go and let them get to know me. I'm quiet as a church mouse I've been told by someone. I can't remember now who told me that. LOL

Anyway, we had a good time. Oh, and they asked me to read "how it works" at the meeting last night. I was so nervous. I've done service work like chairing and secretary at other smaller groups, but this meeting last night is one of the bigger meetings in my area. So, that's why I was so nervous. Large crowds make me nervous and i turn into that little church mouse. LOL

Anyway, I like doing service work and it's makes me think of my home group today. We're very small, just me and 2 other girls that are active members. I feel saddened today that they don't want to be involved in AA like myself. The one girl in my group doesn't even have a sponser or work the steps even. Anyway, I want to be like those old timers and get involved and stay involved. It keeps me sober. I don't ever want to go back being alone everyday, just drinking.

Hi. Good to see you here. When I was just a couple weeks sober, I went to a meeting one night with my sponsor and he pointed out to me, a guy who had 20 years sober. I can remember saying, "boy, I'd sure like to have 20 years sober." My sponsor said, "it takes just one day at a time."

It's good you're into service work but service work can never take the place of working the steps, going to meetings and talking to your sponsor. So, while you're doing things to help others, don't forget to help yourself.

Keep coming back.

In that case I wasn't sober until a few years in AA because I didn't read that book until I was a couple of years sober.

Music is right-service isn't necessarily recovery. Service in the group is good in the fact that it might keep you around until you do the steps.

I smiled when I read this partially because its funny and partially because I have been in places in AA where that is not so far from their reality.

I found those informal coffee get togethers
were very helpful. Glad you are going....

I agree. I do all the above. I do step 1 and 3 on a daily basis as i was taught. I actually talked to my sponser last week about making my amends with my parents. Their coming out from Texas for a visit. It will probley be their last out here. So, it will be a good opportunity for me to do it face to face with them.
