| Silly Rabbit | Time to call the wahhh-mublance
solution oriented not nitpicking focused on our primary purpose not getting our egotistical points across carrying the message of recovery not bickering about how we do that, why we do that, or what that message is placing principles before personalities not getting twisted about someone else's plan for their life love and TOLERANCE being our code not knocking down others' ideas on recovery sharing our experience, strength, and hope without expectations not forcefeeding AA or 12 step knowledge to anyone i've just read so many AA members who seem like they work (or they would work) solid programs showin out. AA's not about that, not in my sobriety family or my meetings. i know we've all got defects, myself included (and maybe in the lead!), but the last thing i want to do is scare someone off from recovery. there are shining examples on this board of folks who manage to carry the message without getting defensive or controlling or snotty, and i look to them for my inspiration when i read something that i take as inflammatory. basically, man up - sometimes we are the only big book someone will ever see. i don't wanna call the wahh-mbulance, but i fully will. on a completely unrelated sidenote, some friends and i were talking about how much fun it would be to share in a meeting sometime using only grateful dead lyrics... totally possible, too. so far, i've got "hi, i'm emily, and i'm an alcoholic... y'know, it's hard to see the silver lining sometimes when all i can see is a touch of grey. some days i'm ridin that train, but i know there's trouble ahead. usually, trouble behind. i just know i better watch my speed. everyday isn't going to be sunshine daydreams, but i'm feelin fine. i will get by. WE will get by. thanks." now, those are lyrics from radio tracks, but i listen to this terrible classic rock station on my way to and from work, so those are the ones that are freshest in my brain. you try!

I cannot resist Gone are the days I stopped to decide where I should go, now I just ride. Gone are the broken eyes I saw through in dreams gone, both dream and lie. Life may be sweeter for this, I don't know. Feels like it might be alright. ~a |

How about... If I ventured in the slipstream Between the viaducts of your dream Where immobile steel rims crack And the ditch in the back roads stop Could you find me? Would you kiss-a my eyes? To lay me down In silence easy To be born again

Not familiar with Grateful Dead songs. How about Metallica? A beginners meeting, sharing about step 1: Hi my name is Don & I'm an alcoholic: End of passion play, crumbling away I'm your source of self-destruction Veins that pump with fear, sucking darkest clear Leading on your death's construction Taste me you will see More is all you need Dedicated to How I'm killing you Come crawling faster Obey your master Your life burns faster Obey your master Master Master of puppets, I'm pulling your strings Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams Blinded by me, you can't see a thing Just call my name 'cause I'll hear you scream Master Master Man that's dark. Sorta like a heavy metal "Doctors Opinion." "Keep coming back" indeed. Okay, my five minutes is up.

DON'T get me started with The Grateful Dead... It has been as much about the lyrics for me as the music... Yea, the penultimate jam band... none better. But, their lyrics have been under-rated... I've always loved... Right outside this lazy summer home You aint got time to call your soul a critic no. Right outside the lazy gate of winters summer home, Wondrin where the nut-thatch winters, Wings a mile long just carried the bird away. Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world, The heart has its beaches, its homeland and thoughts of its own. Wake now, discover that you are the song that the mornin brings, But the heart has its seasons, its evenins and songs of its own. Mark

i like the idea of a death metal dr.'s opinion. honestly, i think bill w. would've too, he seemed pretty hardcore... i love that song, mark. i think the main reason i love the grateful dead is their lyrics, y'know? how mad can you be when you're hearing "nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile... "? yeah. like "brown eyed girl", who's unhappy when that comes on? seriously.

I told you not to get me started... I always liked this line in Mississippi Half Step Uptown Toodleloo... If all you got to live for is what you left behind get yourself a powder charge and seal that silver mine Seems appropriate somehow Mark

Ok Em, you asked for it: Once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right Sums up how I found God quite nicely, I love Robert Hunter's lyrics.

I'm not a dead head either, perfect circle is my addiction band of choice. I could for sure do a whole meeting with their lyrics. My name is Lisa, once upon a time I felt like this: Little angel go away Come again some other day The devil has my ear today I'll never hear a word you say He promised I would find a little solace and some peace of mind Whatever just as long as I don't feel so... Desperate and ravenous I'm so weak and powerless over you

Here ya go, Jim... "Don't want to discuss it / I think it's time for a change / You may get disgusted / And start thinkin' that I'm actin' strange / In that case I'll go underground / Get some heavy rest / Never have to worry / About what is worst and what is best . . . hit it Oh, oh Domino..."

Robert Hunter is an amazing lyricist and what is that thing Bobby does with his head? LOL I saw thirty some Dead shows between the years of 1986 and 1991 I may come back to this thread with some lyrics. Peace, Missy |

I just like good music. Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah" is another one that is in heavy rotation. | |
