| when i see it up close..
active alcoholism is a sad and disgusting thing.. i have had two occasions recently that have put me in contact with drinking alcoholics and though it was not too good a feeling.. it did remind me of the old saying.. "there but for the grace of god go i"

Yes, this disease is serious and deadly. Interesting how drinking used to be "fun". I'm sorry to hear you lost a friend. My Dad is an active alcoholic. Most of the time he seems perfectly OK, but the insanity is ever-present. I have to laugh nervously at his comments about mixing vodka with cranberry juice because the juice is good for his liver. Unreal. As we say at meetings......Please observe a moment of silence for the alcoholic who is still suffering.

i expierenced this recently as well. i'm seven months sober; it struck a cord. i saw me. right there. that was me and will be me if i take just one drink. i am moved to continue on this journey of recovery more than ever, one day at a time commiting to my first priority, condiontionless sobriety. don't drink no matter what.

I guess I am a bit strange, rofl I like it when a practicing alcoholic is put up close and personal in my life. I believe it is a "God Shot" so to speak. Once more HP reminding me of where I could be instead of where I am. I really like working with 'wet ones.' Why? Because they are me 'way back when', and the shock that goes through me when I see that momentary 'light in their eyes', WOW. Because I was so 'hard core' and at the end when I found recovery, I believe part of the reason I was given a Second Chance is so that I could continue to carry the message to 'hard core.' J M H O Love and hugs,
