Sensitivity

Quote:
We find it better, when possible, to stick to our own stories. A man may criticize or laugh at himself and it will affect others favorably, but criticism or ridicule of him coming from another often produces the contrary effect. page 125 Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics are not just sensitive, we are plain touchy. Our lack of humility often allows us to be hurt by the slightest reference to any of our failings. Admission of our shortcomings helps us to develop the humility we lack.

That first step, admitting I was powerless over alcohol was the first bite of humble pie for me! LOL Sensative????? You betcha, far less then I used to be today, but the old man can still get his feelings hurt. The steps and sobriety have led me to eating plenty of humble pie. it is actually not all that bad, I seem to grow with every bite.

Are you talking about me, again? I'm not sensitivity and I am completely blown over that anyone would consider me so! Of all the people who could be talked about here and you pick me out of the crowd!

I have an ex I had not seen for 14 months who suddenly showed up and proceeded to

talk about me in meetings (badly)..sharing "my story"..even to the point of using my name.

I had to stop going for my sanity's sake with the exception for one Women's meeting.

He goes to all mixed meetings in town doing this.

I know this is an extreme case...

But I recall a husband and wife situation once...long term sobriety both of them.

She mentioned a little story about him and then said.."Oh! I am so sorry..that is

you story." He said "Thank you." I think it is all about focusing our recovery

on ourselves.."We tell our story in a general way"..not someone else's....

And it's about respect.
