You know just like the good alkie that I am I had an alterior motive behind this poll, it was supposed to show that we do on occasion have enough influence on folks here on line to get them to go to AA....................... Well the poll only shows one person and I know of at least 3 others personally since I have been here................ You know that really does not sound like much, but if just one person finds sobriety by us posting our ES&H we have in AA then it is all good.

That in it self makes me choose my words carefully when, posting a response on here. Been a few threads where, a topic gets really hot. I would encourage people with a drinking problem to attend AA. I'm not saying this is the best course for everyone but, it's made a positive impact in my life and countless other people. I don't venture into the other sections on here that, use another method of recovery. I'm satisfied in my recovery after all these years.

Good topic. After being arrested three times in three consecutive nights while in a blackout, and waking up in jail after the third time with pepper spray in my eyes, bruises all over my body, and an orange jumpsuit, I thought perhaps that was an appropriate time to get some help. So I went to treatment, and then went to A.A. the day I got out because it had been suggested by the counselors that people who do that have a much better chance of staying sober than people who don't. during the course of my last few weeks of drinking: 1: my sister came into my room to get a top as I was sleeping and I attacked her and kicked her out of my flat and sent her walking 2 miles in the country side at 4am 2:my older sister then sent me to see a councellor 3:a few weeks later I got in to a fight with my ex and tried to kill myself 4:the next morning I went to my councellor still out of it from the drugs 5:he refered me to rehab, I told him I'd do anything as long as he did'nt send my to a mental ward A week later I was in rehab thinking that it was my familly that had the problem and not me and by going to rehab (not understanding what it actually was) would make them see sence and own up to their responsibilities...funnily enough I also descovered I was and am an alcoholic...now I get on great with my familly and love them all dearly(something I could not say a year ago) therefore me getting sober,me changing changed the situation....as I can't change others only myself |

Rehab ordered me to AA. My rehab group was required to attend AA and NA meetings as a component of the treatment plan. 13 years latter I attend AA meetings on a semi-regular basis mostly on Saturday morning. I like the fellowship at the AlAno Club more so and will hang out there often.

I joined SR and got sober here..but after 3 months my ex (also sober) wanted to go back to AA and encouraged me to go. I really wanted to change things about myself..not just get sober and she said that was a way to do it. She was right. I'm still going...she isn't. There is an even happier ending..she's going back. :-)
