Needing Encouragement- Depressed

Well, I woke up feeling very depressed this morning. My chronic pain is really bad today. I've been hurting since last week. It makes it hard to keep up with posts on SR that i want to read and write on.

I will say that I'm not going to drink over this. I use to do that on a daily basis. I am grateful that AA has helped me get and stay sober through all this.

I'm feeling depressed and disappointed that I probably won't be able to go to the AA convention up in Syracuse, NY. this weekend. I was really looking forward to that. The car ride alone would be hard not to mention the hard folding chairs to sit in all day. Maybe I'll get lucky, it is still a few days away. Who knows. My home group is on Saturday nights if i don't make it. We have comfy couches at my group so i never miss my group. That's one reason i joined that group; plus it was my home group back in 1992 when i was in AA the first time.

I'm going to call one of my contacts this afternoon. She's actually my sponsor's sponser. She doesn't work either and lives with chronic pain. So i know I'm not alone.

Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry you're in pain and depressed.
Sounds like you're doing the right thing. Call someone, go to a meeting.

Remember, One day at a Time. Don't look too far into the future!

:praying for you.

I'm sorry that you're not feeling well, but I'm happy to see you've reached out to others. My ego often dictates that I keep quiet when I'm in more pain than I can handle, so I tell on myself. Not only does it keep me from suffering in silence (read: feeling self-pity), but it gives someone else the gift of service--lending an ear or a hand, as the case might be.

Peace & Love,
Sugah

As I read your post, I attempted to place myself in your shoes and I cannot today in respect to pain. Today, inspite of your difficulties, you have the gift of a New Life. I am grateful for the silver lining as you refer in this statement;

"I'm going to call one of my contacts this afternoon. She's actually my sponsor's sponser. She doesn't work either and lives with chronic pain. So i know I'm not alone."

No, you are not alone and you are in my thoughts and prayer today and the days to come. You will overcome, today.

Best to you, Ron

Hi Barb,

I'm so glad you reached out and posted. I'm so sorry you're in pain; it just makes simple pleasures that much more difficult to enjoy.

I do so hope you can get some relief before the weekend so that you can go to the convention, even if you take a soft cushion with you to sit on.

It's good that you're calling someone, too.

Healing thoughts coming your way!

Big hug,

Donna

Take it easy.

Yesterday I was thinking about how when I was diagnosed with MS an AA friend told me she knew someone who had MS and they had told her it was a daily thing to wake up and do like a body assesment of what is working/what is not and what hurts and what doesn't. I recall that I was rather horrified by this story. That was 2 years ago now and I suppose that is also how I live my life to a lesser or greater degree.

Over the last few days I have discovered this web site called 'Practising the Presence of God'. It is quite beautiful. And I wish I'd found it a while ago. It is a tad religous but I just filter it. :praying

I'm sorry that you're in a difficult place, Barb, and I hope you get to go to the convention. I know a lady that keeps a special chair in a room at the church where her home group meets. Could you pick up something inexpensive, or a cushion - as was suggested? Maybe get up and walk around periodically?

Regardless of what happens with the convention, I'm glad you took the time and effort to post where you are at today. I hope you get some comfort reading the replies. Gentle hugs going out to you and I hope the kittens got a clean bill of health at their first check-up.

(((Barb)))

I'm sorry you're in pain and feeling down. I'm glad you're reaching out, though, and you have good alternatives if you can't make it to the convention.

Take care of you, and watch the kitties play..that should bring a smile to your face

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

I can understand how you're feeling, I also suffer from chronic pain issues and there are times when as much as I want to do something, my body just won't cooperate.

I'm going through some things right now too, but I just wanted to share what I keep telling myself. This Too Shall Pass and Thank God I have not felt the need or desire to pick up. For me, I also, hard as it may be at times, need to remember that there are others a lot worse off than me. At least we are able to make Meetings on most days, there are others who are permanately bed ridden due to illnesses.

A gentle but heartfelt hug,
Judy

Wish I could help in some manner, a prayer will do, His will, will be done. If you get feeling better and make it to the convention, it will be because He wanted you there, but He may need you at your home group for a reason you may never know.

Thank you everyone for all your support. Tried to get on here yesterday and the site was down again.

I'm feeling a lot better today. Still hurting today, but not letting it get to me. I thinking of Gratitude today. That always helps. I just wrote on my other thread "We all have something to be grateful for. Even the smallest of things." All you got to do is watch the news and you'll found things to be grateful for in your own life. I think to myself at least i have arms and hands, some people don't have any.

This is getting toward the time of year when i get hurting more with the change in weather. And I know that. So I just have to accept that like i do with my recovery in AA.

Yep, already have my pillow Ro. I take it with me to my local meetings when i need it and i get up to walk around when i need to. I had to do it last Friday at the speaker meeting actually.

When i first came back to AA i was worried what people would think of me. I was worried that they thought I was doing it for attention when I wasn't. My sponser told me long time ago not to worry what they thought. I have to take care of myself.

Oh, and the kittens are good. Mary has ear mites and we got medicine for her. We have to give it to all the cats. So that hasn't help my arms any wrestling with the big girls trying to give them the medicine too. LOL
