| Glad to be here
Before I got to his site, I assumed "recovery" meant dealing with the 12 steps, but after chatting a while last nite, they told me most don't go to AA, they use other avenues, psychotherapy, this site, whatever. Idon't believe they had 1 year combined. I think consecutive time is the "proof in the pudding". Glad to have found AA before the chat room here....

We do have members exploring all sorts of ways to get sober. Hope they can find the joy and peace that AA gives me. There are AA meetings held in the Chat room several times a week. They also have some meetings not program specific. If you are interested in Chat meeting times..please look at the Chat shedule. Welcome to our Alcoholism 12 Step Support Forum...

Welcome Steve I've learn all kinds of things from members here - some had years, some had a day, some did AA, some didn't (I don't just so you know). The trick IMO to be open to that which I'm meant to hear, but not so freeform that I'll follow whatever the last guy just said to me I haven't stopped learning yet. D

Welcome to SR Steve, AA alone worked for me just fine before I ever came to SR, but that is not to say that another program may not have worked for me. That being said I doubt very seriously I would have ever stayed sober coming just to SR, I am sure there are some that do though. I have picked up some real good stuff here, both from AA folks and non-AA folks. The primary thing I have picked up from the non-AA folks is that I would have never stayed sober without AA and I can see that the people who have stayed sober without AA are practicing many parts of the AA program. There are some great folks here at SR both in and out of AA.

Steve, There are many paths to recovery, AA is just one of them (and my path). Glad you are here.

Even the Big Book says we don't have a monopoly on God. It also says that if our new prospect wishes to choose anothe rpath, our hats are off to him. I too am glad I found AA. I need the face to face interaction with people. But, as a military person, I have at times found sites like this to be a real lifeline when I can't make meetings. I will be the first to say that meeting makers simply make meetings. There are plenty of people in AA who still suffer from untreated alcoholism. I think that we have to put our lives on a different level. The prayer of St Francis is where I ask to be made a channel of God's Peace, to become a conduit of His grace. I have found many AA meetings to be the best place for me to do His Will. The same God who relieved me of the obsession to drink wants me to show others how I recovered. I do that in meetings.
