For me, after some pain and further experience, my 4th had to follow what was suggested in the BB. Resentments, fears, sex conduct & harm to others. Once it was down in black & white, then I could continue forward with more action. Remorse, again for me, wasn't handled or managed in a 4th step. The time & place for that came soon after taking the 4th, because I remained willing to continue taking action.

I've inventoried a few times in my time in AA and learned that following the suggested format in the BB, to be the most efficient experience I'd had. Page 67 paragraph 2, is huge ... it's where column 4 is created. That's where I was finally able to connect the dots about me and where I began to truly see the importance of having God in my life.

Obviously, it's your decision how you proceed. But I can tell you from my own experience and having done this for a little while, the big book still has the best plan of action.

In fellowship,

Paul
