New to sober recovery

I found this site accidently when I was googling Bob Dylans alcoholic life, and thought it was cool because will have been sober for 6 months on the 29 of Nov. (one day at a time!)--doesn't that one day at a time make it so simple if I thought I had to quit drinking the rest of my life I could not do it.

I am a member of AA and read a few post in the thread about the "real alcoholic" and I just know that an alcholic is only an alcoholic if he deems himself an alcoholic and that is what my Big Book of AA says.
My dad drank like an alcoholic but wasn't one because he didn't think he was. I am an alcoholic no matter how often or how much or how long I drank that's what my Big Book tells me.

I'm not sure if I'll stay on this site too long as I am comfortable in AA and think there might be some weird people here(not saying there are not any in AA) but it's a new experience which I will talk with my sponser about tomorrow.
It might be another oppurtunity to work with others.....just saying hi!

Welcome to SR. My sponsor knows about my online recovery and thinks it's great. I recently bumped into an old councilor of mine at an AA meeting and she was interested in sending some of her clients to online recovery boards like this one.

Good luck with whatever you try and congrats on your sober time.

Hey Walt, welcome to SR, congrats on almost 6 months! I find this site an excellent addition to AA, not a substitute, but addition.

This site reminds me so much of AA, there are some awesome folks here with a good mix of ES&H.

Welcome Walt.

Yes - there are some strange people here (myself included).

Mostly harmless though.

Ditto! I attend AA meetings almost every night, but SR is a great place for me to share and hear from others in recovery. Much better than surfing the net for things that don't mix well with recovery!

Welcome Walt! Hope you stick around.

I truly get paranoia when you guys talk about me when I am here and not here, or don't talk about me when I am anywhere else.

I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell,
I know, right now you can't tell,
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see,
A different side of me."

Welcome to SR. glad you are checking this forum out. I go to AA also. I go 1 or 2 times a day to AA and fill in here when I can. I have found this forum very interesting and helpful..I have had issues that I have been able to reveal here which I have a hard time doing in person for now..and have gotten great support. I am probably one that would be deemed weird...But I like to be a bit different. I still have a good heart either way and trying to improve my life..and hopefully sometime I can help someone else with my posts. Hope ya come back and visit.
