| Just a question I am curious about something and would really like to hear your thoughts on the subject. I have noticed the controversy regarding non 12 Step users posting in this 12 Step Support forum. Over the past few days it has really been on my mind. To a certain degree I don't care what forum people choose to post in but my personal thoughts on it are:
Personally as long as a person is not flaming, trying to start controversy, and sticking to SR's policies I don't care where they choose to post. I am just curious as to why someone would want to use a forum they don't believe in. As stupid as it may sound, I am not posting this to hurt anyones feelings, I am genuinely confused and curious about it. Can someone please help me understand this concept?

Only reason I haven't gone into the mens forum is because I am scared it will bounce me out or something. LOL. I swear I had to tick a box or something that said I was female when I signed up. LOL As for the others, I post in: Alcoholism Narcotics Fam & friends of Alkies/Addicts ACOA Pain Mangement I've attended meetings for all of the above in the real world too so have some ESH. I think on occasion I've posted elsewhere if a topic interests me. Dunno if that helps????

I go to AA meetings sometimes and I do have the desire to not drink. NA is for recovery from all substances, so it includes alcohol and I've attended more than a handful of NA meetings. But, I usually only post on those forums when the topic is more generic and I feel like I can relate or if someone is struggling with some of the same issues that I have. Plus, some of the people I consider friends post here and I sometimes want to participate in their discussions.

"So I am curious as to why a person who does not work or believe in the 12 Step format to recovery would choose to post in a forum for 12 Step support? I don't get it." I often wonder this as well J. And I also pray on it when my knickers get in a bunch by something someone says. Sometimes it takes all I have to not respond to something..I'm glad that usually it works. I can see all the reasons why I work the 12 steps through those other people though..

Yeah- I am right with you! I don't get it either! Some people are just never happy. A lot of the people who bash the 12-steps are people who need it the most! Don't let it bother you. There are a lot of sick people out there who just wanted to be mad at something.

I'm an alcoholic who has recovered from alcoholism through taking the action outlined in the book Alcoholics Anonymous. Although my primary spiritual aim is to help another alcoholic recover, I have been moved at times to post on other forums. I glance through the other forums and if I see a thread that catches my eye and that sharing my experience could possibly prove helpful to another, I post. In fact, the first time I ever posted on SR was on The Families and Friends of Alcoholics forum. I've since posted on the NA 12 Step forum a few times and struck up a friendship with a member there. Lately, because of an experience I've been having with a new (for me) meditation practice, I've posted on on the Secular 12 Step and Secular Connections forums. Because I have had and continue to have a spiritual awakening as the result of the 12 Steps, I don't have to draw lines. All the while sticking to the belief that my primary purpose is to help another alcoholic recover and that Alcoholics Anonymous is for alcoholics.I don't kid myself as to where I really belong. Jim
