| Remiss in Morning Meditation
Of late, I have not practiced morning meditations. I pray upon getting up, but it has gotten shorter and shorter as the weeks have passed and my exercise of personal will increased. In fact, my meditation books are in the front bedroom, gathering dust. CarolD recent thread shook me to the core; time to start the day with God's power rather than my own. If I am well equipped, I stand a better chance of enjoying the day, being more available to others emotionally and to myself. It all starts with my decision and action. Ron

dito rufus.....part of what helps me in sharing with other alchoholics is that it helps me recognize when I am getting off beam. It is obvious in my life that when I am grounded in the steps and putting them in my life....the world is a better place to be. When I start forgetting about that...I and others suffer the concequences. So I am rededicating myself to the practice of prayer and meditation. Thanks. |

Thanks for posting this! This is true for me as well..everything turns to crap rather quickly when I'm not staying on the beam!

This hits close to home for me too. What do you do for morning meditations? I am ok at it guess but I don't always have something to meditate on.

Hits home for me as well, I need to focus more on prayer and meditation and worry less about others opinion of me. I have so far to go.

I use the 24 Hour a Day Book and I have started reading through my Big Book again. I need reminders and focus; prayer and meditation get me closer!

I find that my morning readings, meditation, and prayer have both a spiritual and a psychological aspect. I get a deep connection with my higher power and my thinking afterward is much more focused. I am always much more calmer and peaceful, ready to accept what the day has to offer, ready to do the next right thing. I also feel protected, that if I struggle, I have help. This is a major part of my recovery. It can’t be undervalued or taken for granted. This state of mind sometimes lasts for a couple of hours but more & more often, all day. Perhaps I should consider afternoon readings, meditation, and prayer. There are many days when I don’t have the time or make the time for morning readings & meditation and I have to rely on a short prayer. It really is my loss. It doesn’t have to take a great deal of time. So far, my readings have come from: Came to Believe: The Spiritual Adventure of AA as Experienced by Individual Members - A very powerful book. Initially I took the title to mean that the book was for people who were having difficulties believing in a higher power. This is not at all the case. I find that it gives greater depth to my own understanding and articulates many of my own thoughts. Practicing the Power of Now: Essential Teachings, Meditations, and Exercises, Eckhart Tolle– From the back cover “All you really need to do is accept the moment fully. You are then at ease in the here and now and at ease with yourself.” |
