Another one lost

Quote:
The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the great obsession of every abnormal drinker. The persistence of this illusion is astonishing. Many pursue it into the gates of insanity or death.
The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous

I just learned today that an old drinking buddy committed suicide.

He was an astounding programmer, could whip my ass at chess, and was probably one of the 3 smartest people I ever met. He made various attempts to put the plug in the jug, to no avail. I only wish I had one last chance to show him the rooms of AA. To my knowledge he never tried AA - although I know the courts showed him the door more than once.

Just one more testament to the fact that this disease KILLS PEOPLE.

Rest easy Tim.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Seems like I've said that way too many times in my 32 years of using and a few days shy of 3 years in Recovery.

When I was using, there were times when I thought about suicide. I thought my family and what few friends I had left would be better off without me here.

Now, in Recovery, I see how the families suffering will continue forever.

"God, be with the addict and alcoholic who is still suffering please help them see that it is possible to live life to the fullest . . . without drugs and alcohol."
