| Social Network Moderator | Dr. G.
I've been attending relapse prevention group therapy every week for the last 10 months - sometimes twice a week. The facilitator, Dr. G., also leads workshops on weekends, and sees patients one-on-one in his home. He is also a recovering alcoholic and recently celebrated 28 years. Between attending trauma workshops, participating in relapse prevention, and seeing him on my own, my recovery has strengthened in ways I never imagined. Dr. G. is 63, and has had a dry cough for the last year. He's experimented with dietary changes, consulted MD's, had many tests, has seen allergists, etc. He's very fit and exercises regularly. His first grandchild recently celebrated her first birthday and Dr. G. was so excited about her party. Dr. G. just announced that he is closing his practice in about a month for an indefinite period of time. He will be going into hospital. He will not share his diagnosis or treatment plan but it appears to be very grave. I only found this out tonight while at a meeting. I was able to share with Dr. G. the hateful things my father did to me, and he (Dr. G.) was able to look at me with compassion, and to reassure me that my father was wrong. He assured me that I was a good mother, and made sure that I knew why. I don't know what is going to happen to Dr. G. Maybe by some miracle, he'll beat this and overcome the odds. But I'm going to pray for him every night. And I'll never treat my alcoholism like a joke again. Sometimes, to make others feel comfortable, I'll poke fun at myself, and at my disease. I'm not going to do that anymore. I'm very sad tonight and - I just wanted to come here and share.

I just saw this Ro. I am sorry your having to stop seeing your Dr. G. Take what he has taught you and share it with someone else. I think that would be an honor to him. I am glad you have learned all that you have. You are a great example of what recovery is. Love ya
