| how would you rate??
a alcoholic was asked by his sponsor, how would you rate your relationship with yourself; from 1-10? Simple question or is it. What would my rating of my relationship with family be?with God? How about myself? How about those online here at SR?And why the differences. After all at one time I was a ten with alcohol...untill it went to a one.. But I’m curious what would you rate your relationships..with self, family and your Higher Power? And what are you doing to improve the numbers, just for today? Care to share? tks Tommy(who is still thinking)

Wow, great stuff, I've recently been listining to some AA recordings and the speakers talk about how we (as alcoholics) have a tendency to judge ourselves on our intension's, when the world judges us on our actions. Taking this a bit further, the speaker encourages us to examine our own actions as a way to discover what we really value. For example, I would venture to guess that if one were to ask most folks that are trying to work the 12 steps, "How important is your relationship with God?", most would probably answer: "very important". The next question is, "How much time do you devote to this relationship?". One hour a week, in church? One hour a day in meditation? This, of course, can be applied to all of our relationships. Those with Family, Friends, and yes, ourselves. How much time do we devote to cultivating our our relationship with ourselves? Wow, this is a really good question. b-dad, you have outdone yourself. You have asked a question that simply cannot be answered glibly, or quickly, or shallowly. I'm thinkin I've got some serious thinkin to do. JOM |

My recovery allows me to be a 10 with God and myself.. an 8 with family and friends. This requires a daily committment to God and living our AA Steps.

I just do my best to do my best. If I feel like I'm not doing my best at being a good father, son, friend, sponsor, sponsee, and just generally a good person, then I'm getting lazy, selfish, and falling into old failing ways. God knows when I get lazy and usually my sponsor does also. My sponsor will call me on my BS and help me get back on track. Over all I believe God gave me the sponsor and situations that make me face the times when I'm getting lazy, letting me know God helps me out. All these people in the world, and Gos still has time to watch out for me. Ain't life great?!? Tom |

Wow this is a good question that makes me think...... something I should probably ask myself every day. Things like this make me glad that we strive for progress and not perfection, I vary from a 5 to an 8 on all counts most of the time, a 10 I strive for and there have been a few very brief moments where I felt myself hit a 10 with my connection with my HP, moments that I can count on one hand, moments I will never forget. This is a great question I should ask myself daily.
