| Way to go. Your sobriety is looking good on you and must be showing on the outside as well as the growth I have seen in you over the past several months. You can do this, remember it is sharing your experience, strength, and hope on how you stay sober and work the program in all aspects of your life each day.

MM, you have something real to offer, you are doing the work and living the program. If you can't sleep, read the Chapter in the Big Book A vision for you, it is one of my favorites, this is what your life is about to look like.

Scary and exciting is right!!! I remember like it was yesterday when my sponsee asked me to sponsor him..... I was scared some how I would blow it even though my sponsor had already spoken to me several times about my first sponsee who lived up to the name of "Pigeon" (another story). I was also excited that I was going to have a chance to pass on freely to someone else what had so freely been passed on to me. I was also surprised that I had something that some one else wanted!!!! What an experience and blessing this young man has been. We just recently finished working the steps, last week he had a year sober, tonight he has asked me to give him his one year chip, he is celebrating tonight because his family will be in town. His fiancee` (They were engaged before he came in the rooms) and his family will be there. I will be passing on to him my one year chip. Karen please keep in mind that you can not keep your sponsee sober, only your sponsee can do that, take her through the steps, share your ESH as you guide her through them, if your experience is like mine and my sponsors you will gain more from the steps helping someone else go through them then you did when you worked them the first time. I pray that you experience the joy I did with my present sponsee, when he first asked me to sponsor him his teeth were still shaking, he was a mess, fresh out of his third detox in less then 6 months. I did a lot of praying and reading while we worked the steps, he did a lot of work and he pushed me to take him through the steps initially, once he got that it was not a race to work the steps he worked to understand and work the steps in depth, he pushed still, but only when he was ready to move on did we do so. The blessing today is to see a young man with a sparkle in his eye, a smile on his face, joy in his voice who talks program with me every time he sees me, he really gets it and that really excites me. I take no credit for this, he did the work, he found his HP, he did the work, I simply shared my ESH with him and took him through the steps very much like I was taken through them.

Just don’t forget, you are responsible for her sobriety now. If she drinks, it’s on you. LOL. Of course, I’m kidding. When I feel inadequate while working with someone, my sponsor always tells me to remember that God is in charge, not me. I take it this is your first sponsee? I’ve found it to be a real blessing because when sponsoring someone, you really have to listen to what you tell him (or her). |
