| A Gift For my Dad - Now in Recovery! :-) Hello everybody. I'm a 24 year old lad with a 55 year old alchoholic father. After long struggle and lots of half hearted, and a few of almost whole hearted attempts at getting sober, he is now getting the help and showing the will to live, and to live sober. Me and my brother couldn't be happier and we would love to get him a gift to mark the begginning of a new chapter in his life and something a bit personal to. Does anyone know any good websites or places to go to find good gifts for someone in recovery? Maybe something with a prayer about courage or something that can be engraved. He doesn't wear jewellery but something for his study could be good, engraved paperweight etc. Also he likes Earl Hightowers recovery story and he would love a dvd or cd of dry, dark comedy with peoples stories. Robin Williams live at the Apollo sort of thing. Any help on this would be a massive help. I'm really stuck on this one. Thanks!! |

As a dad... For me, the smile on my childrens' faces is a bigger gift then anything that money can buy. As for something that may help him in his strive for a goal of a sober life... The AA Big Book would be nice.

Yaneez, I am the father of 6, my 4 oldest grew up during my drinking days, my 2 youngest were 14 (twins) when I got sober. The greatest gift they ever gave me was them simply letting me know how proud they were of me and how much they loved me...... that and forgiveness. I would suggest something that expresses your love and pride in him.

As Taz says just let him know - and perhaps write it down so he can re-read it. Us alcoholics never tire of hearing how proud our loved ones are of us!! how wonderful for your dad to have your support! cathy31 x
