| A big miracle is happening for me...
Finally after many years of raising two daughters by myself, getting college classes in here and there where I could, working any job I could get to put food on the table and pay the utility bills, today I took a campus tour of Hutchinson Community College and visited with the director of the Registered Health Information Technologist program. I start classes June 2, and every single one of the required classes is available online, which saves me tons on gas (80 miles round trip per day). It also saves on my back with the degenerative disc disease. I have a very nice computer chair with lumbar support that Vocational-Rehabilitation purchased for me. I went today with the understanding I would be completing an associate of applied science in medical information technology. It turns out I am only 2-3 classes short (besides those already required that I will take) of being able to graduate with a double degree, the second being an associate of art which will allow me to transfer to a 4 year college should I decide to go for my bachelor's. I grinned, and told her, let's do that double degree. This has been a long time coming, 17 1/2 years of continuous sobriety, a lot of hard work, and I am so damned excited I am keeping a spatula in my back pocket should I decide to get down off the ceiling.

I was just asked today how long my wife has been a nurse. The asking brought back the memories of her taking classes as she was able...even having a 4th child along the way be added to the family *LOL* I know how hard you must have worked to reach where you are. You should be very proud...oh and while you are on the ceiling...would you mind if I pass the duster up to you. I think the ceiling fan may need it *LOL* Congratulations. Well done.

That is awesome news!! And I want to give a big THANK YOU!! I was an RN, before addiction took over. I am going to try to get my nursing license back, but have been thinking of other things I want to do in case it doesn't work out. After reading this post, I just sent for information on getting an HIT degree. Hugs and prayers! Amy

You should be very proud of what you have accomplished, I am sure your kids are proud of you. Hearing stories like yours give me hope that I too can get another degree for my second career once my kids are out of HS. You are amoung the many people who prove that the program works!!!
