| Sponspr Relapse
I am not sure if this is the right Forum to be in so please redirect me if I am in the wrong one. I found out today that my sponspr picked up a 24 hour chip this morning. I tried to call and no one answers i am sure she needs time. I am not sure what to do! I have been sober for a little over four months this might sound silly but I am scared. I know she has been dealing with a lot of difficult things. When I heard the news I felt sick to my stomach and have ever since. My alcoholic mind wants to fix it for her even though I know I can't and it reminds me that even with nine years of sobriety we are ALWAYS that close to a drink. I have told her a lot of things and I am not worried they will be told! I feel selfish because it was very hard for me to find a sponsor and I went through a lot of pain in telling her things about me I would or have never told anyone. I don't know what to do! |

The fact that she picked up a 24 hour chip does not mean that she has relapsed. I have known people that have been struggling in their sobriety and they picked up a chip. in many groups this is called a "desire" chip, and the person was struggling so badly he wanted to pick up a chip so he did. So make darn sure she actually relapsed. Other that that just be there for her. We are all in this together and that includes your sponsor. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

So far...you relly have no clue if this is true or not. And if so...why the action was taken. In my group....a desire chip can mean a member is making a fresh committment to AA. Pray for her and wait to see what unfolds.

| Member | It reminds me that there are are a lot of sick and suffering folks in AA who have not had a drink in years. My unsolicited advice, find a sponsor who has recovered from alcoholism and can tell you exactly how it works. Your life may very well depend on who you choose as a sponsor, anybody that is not pushing you to growing spiritually is one to be leary of.

Sponsors are human too. I echo the sentiment that you find another sponsor. I had a gal ask me last week after a meeting to sponsor her as both of her other sponsors had relapsed. It happens. Replace that fear with faith-faith that your HP has a plan for you |

Just my opinion, but hold off on judgement/acknowledgement until you hear it from the horses mouth. If she did relapse be thier to support her and find another sponsor, she will probably tell you to do that anyhow, her primary focus needs to be renewing her own recovery. Sponsors are not infallable, my sponsor told me right off the bat, that sponsors die, they move, and they even relapse, so do not hesitate to get a new one if need be.

Ditto to what Tazman said. I too had a sponsor relapse once. She went with me to meetings to help me find a new sponsor.
