| Priorities
Today has been one of those lazy days where I haven't accomplished a whole heck of a lot, and I found myself thinking maybe I just wouldn't go to my meeting tonight. Then as I sat here in front of my computer, complete with DSL, a roof over my head, food in the cabinets, and a pretty nice older but very reliable little Nissan Sentra to putt around in, I got an attitude of gratitude! When I first got sober in 1986, there were two AA groups here in my small town (population approx. 3000). The one group had already been established for over 15 years. I attended both groups, as well as weekly aftercare at the rehab center in town (now long defunct). We've been back down to the original group since the late 80's, now well over 35 years old, and the group has been struggling lately with low attendance. We still manage 3 meetings a week, and often on Friday nights it has just been 3-4 of us there. I must remember that without AA, I surely would be dead right now. AA was there for me when I reached out, and I need to be there for the others that come in. 3 meetings a week, that's 3 hours total out of 168 hours a week that I need to be present for myself and for others. I hope that I never forget where I came from, for that is surely the beginning of my trip back into active alcoholism. I did that after 4 years sober the first time around, and do NOT care to repeat that experience. Where are your priorities today? |

I've been to meetings where there was 3 r 4 of us and the meeting lasted over an hour. Been to meetings where the room was full and we got out in 45 minutes. Priorities has to be keeping the plug in the jug giving thanks to God for my sobritey, continuing with my house cleaning and service to others. Our meetings here in my town had gotten really small for a while. We've seen a spike in attendance here for a while. I still have to go to meetings out of town to stop from being stagnant .

My priority is to practice the principles in all of my affairs. Recovery goes so far beyond the time spent in meetings... "All" doesn't leave much room for time when I am not trying to practice the principles. nice post, thank you. |

During my sober time.... I spent 8 years in D.C. AA moved to Pensacola for 6 have been here for 9+. Sooo...the size of meetings has varied the rooms and format differ and yet the message of AA has continued. It's my duty and pleasure to keep it so. ![]() Each one, reach one is alive and well!
