Props to the OP for bringing up Dr Bob's version, I liked that... allbeit a thread that's about 21 months old!!!!!!!!!

Props to Ago for pointing out that changing it up IS following the directions in the book and we can do it in our own words...

I personally like the version in the book and have it somewhat memorized... so it's handy. If I were to do one like the example given for Dr Bob's or came up with my own, I'd have to read it. I wouldn't want to memorize something cumbersome like that.

Help! I need somebody
Help! Not just anybody
Help! You know I need someone
Help!

When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody's help in any way
But now these days are gone I'm not so self assured
Now I find I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors

Help me if you can I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please please help me?

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways
My independence seems to vanish in the haze
But every now and then I feel so insecure
I know that I just need you like I've never done before

Help me if you can I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please please help me?

I love the third step prayer. I use the one in the Big book. I have it printed off and laminated. I say it often...before I chair a meeting, before I meet a sponsee etc

My Third Step Prayer

God, I offer myself to you – may I be your hands and your feet in this world. Release me from the bondage of self, that I may better do your will. May I be open to your guidance in every moment of every day. May my life bear witness to those around me of your power and your love, and the serenity of living a God-centered life. May I do your will always!

A very simple prayer

Today, Lord, I ask only that you enter my life and through me, make your love felt upon the earth.

For the Atheist or Agnostic

May I see reality today and not
illusions from my own prejiduced mind
May I interact with those around me purely
May my choices in situations be thoughtful
both to myself and others
May I see and use all opportunities today
that will improve both my quality of life
and that of others.
May I do no harm to myself or others
May I find contentment today

I take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.
I will to use the tool of mindfulness to rid myself of all desire, clinging, and craving.
I vow to walk the spiritual path, awakening the buddha within me,
for the sake of all sentient beings,
with whom we are all interconnected.

**** amida butsu,
**** amida butsu.
