AA "Clubhouse"

Most of my meetings are at a "Clubhouse". Is a clubhouse a place designated strictly for AA meetings or are other functions held there as well? I've been wondering this since last night I found out that on weekends the clubhouse is open until 1AM, and you can go there and just hang out with sober people, which beats the pants off of spending my weekend nights at home alone. I'm just wondering why some meetings are at non-church locations but aren't clubhouses, and some are.

PS- day 12 here

The clubhouses in my area host AA meetings primarily. There are a few that also hold Alanon, and NA meetings also. As you stated clubhouses are nice, because they are usually open daily and late. You can go there and just hang out when you want to get away. The clubhouses where I live hold 24 hour meetings, sponsored by individual groups from around the area during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New years holidays which are nice for those who have no family, or need to go to a meeting because of their family.

There is a whole Inter-group structure of a network of AA groups, but I don't have enough information to describe it, so it may be better for someone else in here to explain.

Congratz on 12 days.

I am not familiar with the term "clubhouse" for meetings. But I know that it was great for me to hang out with sober people when I was new in sobriety. I still enjoy hanging out at the club I go to.

The place I go is a building just for 12 step meetings. i am blessed to have it close to me.

Well...
Alano Clubs can own property
while AA groups can not.

They are regeresterd with the state
as a non profit organization.

Any groups that meet in Alano Clubs
pay to do so...the Club takes care
of upkeep, supplies and utilities.
Sometimes the Club has managers
either paid or volunteer

Some are very active.
Some are not.

I am sure GSO NY has facts
I am sharing my experiences
and I was President for 2 years
of an Alano Club.
