I'm intergroup rep for my group, and last night was intergroup, over in Manchester.

I'd had a long day, working in Liverpool, then home to feed the kids then back out again. I was pretty tired.

At the door of the building I met a man whose share at my first meeting, when I was really drunk and crazy hit me between the eyes and made me feel that really, I wasn't alone. Although I remember almost nothing of my first meeting, I remember him telling how he found himself sitting in a cubicle in a public toilet and he coughed to cover the sound of the seal being broken on a bottle. The number of times I had done that! On the way to work, stopping at a toilet to neck a quarter bottle of vodka to get me through the morning. That was the moment when I decided I would keep coming, no expectations, no preconditions, no "I'm willing to do this but not that". Just come.

Anyway, I haven't seen him for a few months. Last night he came up to me. He said "I've been carrying this around for a while - our paths don't seem to have crossed" - and he gave me a four year chip!

I've never had a chip before. I've never seen a chip before and I've never seen anyone get one. We just don't do chips here in the UK. But you lot are always banging on about them, lol. And now, for the first time, I've got one. And I'm very grateful, not only for the chip, but because there are such thoughtful and kind people in recovery who encourage me, by their example, to be better. Attraction not promotion is right.

Eeeeeeeeeeee, isn't recovering great?

we do a lot of that over here, too, hon. way to go! feels good, doesn't it?

i said one time when getting one of my coins - I'm only in it for the prizes ...what's the fun of staying sober if you don't get and PRIZES ????
