| Thank you
I usually post on the Substance Abuse thread but I wanted to say thank you to AA. In my area there are very few NA groups. I heard about a wonderful AA group near my home, so when I left detox in June I started attending meetings. I was scared to talk because I had heard that sometimes people in AA don't want addicts at their meetings and vice versa. After six weeks, I realized how caring this group was and I finally spoke up. They welcomed me with open arms. I feel like I've found a home there.

ccgirl there was a day and a time when some old timers did not extend the hand of AA to those with drug problems, with rare exception that is not the case anymore, in my area NA & AA mix well togther and support each other. I went to the Va. AA convention in Waynesboro a few weeks ago and a lady spoke that had 48 years of sobriety, she was among the 12 people at Ebby's grave side along with Bill W and others. Part of her story she shared was her addiction to morphine as well as her alcoholism.

I have heard NA folks say they prefer AA meetings due to more old timers and more spirituality and other NA folks say they prefer NA because they relate to it better. Having never been to an NA meeting I have no experience to share in it, but I will say that the NA folks I speak to are good folks and seem to have thier program working. Hey recovery is recovery where ever one finds it. While I was in Baltimore there was a lady who attends AA meeting because there is only one OA meeting she can find there. Overeaters Anonymous. She loves AA.

I've often thought that addiction is just a means to an end, which is to force us to take a look at what's goin' on inside of ourselves. That being the case, the substance or behavior could be just about anything. In the end, we are all trying to get to the same place spiritually. Peace to you, Cekiya

That is what someone said at the meeting when I came clean (pun intended) about my addiction. When he spoke, he looked directly at me and said "Addiction is addiction, and it is not about the drug we choose; it's about the reasons we do it" That is when I knew I found my home group.
