| Re Chips
Hi again Can anyone tell me when they hand the chips out in early sobriety? I've been to a couple of meetings and as of today am 15 days sober. I was hoping to pick up a chip last night, that would be so encouraging, however that didn't happen. I think I need the incentive :0)

Here in my area of Southern California, anyone with less than 30 days is given a new-comer chip. Then the interval is 30, 60 and 90 days. 6 months, 9 months, and then yearly. I pretty sure it varies by region. AA has no "rules" about handing out chips...

We hand out our chips in the same intervals that Glass mentioned. You should have a 24 hour chip or newcomer chip by now. I know it can be initimidating to take one, but it's a great way to introduce yourself, and yes it can be an incentive to you in early sobriety.

hazelden try the bookstore tab http://www.hazelden.org/ new zealand? maybe in the outback lol but contact your intergroup chips are not an AA "approved" thing hey, you can do it start doing service get a sponsor run this by him you want to attend the business meeting suggest the group give out coins 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 1 year, etc ask the group treasurer if funds are available ask the literature person if he / she / you can order them make a motion to start giving out coins at the meeting (format it into secretary's break) i second the motion then time takes time probably by 90 days "does anyone have 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 1 year, etc" needtobefree raises hand walks to pick up 90 day coin the group claps you are on your way from experience, i did and do service i was the literature person at quite a few groups for a long time and did maitain a chip inventory, pick up, give out chips best fraankie |

Frankie is spot on... Not all AA goups use chips. My first home group in Washington D.C. did not. There was a huge "chip meeting" on Sunday night held by another group. If you had a year or more...you went there and were given a medallion. It is up to each group.

the home group does monthly ... then yearly. they even give 'support' chips to spouses who come with the newcomer. one thing I did, needs - every thirty days, I bought something 'just for me' ... my first 30 days, I bought one of those ridiculously expensive hand thrown coffee cups that I'd NEVER have gotten for myself otherwise. They're my own congratulations ... to me ... from me. Just an idea.
