| Service Opportunities -- input?
You know, Em's thread got me thinking about something. We're hosting a "Service Picnic" in our district to talk about different service opportunities with AA. We're covering everything from 12 step service in the homegroup, from GSR all the way up to the most important positions, coffee maker & greeter So, I'm asking...what are some not-so-obvious service opportunities that you do/see done/think should be done in your area? You'd be doing me a great service in helping me pull this handout together Peace & Love, Sugah

Hmmm... This is something I got going... Our group gave 6 copies of the BB to each local library. The flyleaf had a phone number. We also asked permission ...and got it to place pamphlets with phone number in the 2 motels in our county. but......

Very helpful, Carol. We've done the library thing, though motels are not one of the places we've approached as yet for meeting lists & literature. One of the most recent things we've done is invest in a stamp with our hotline # and website address, so every pamphlet that goes out on the CPC/PI wire has our information on it. I'll add "motels" to the list! Thank you! Peace & Love, Sugah

Sugah - I just got voted the GSR for our group here in Butte. (that's what you get for isolating in MY group - they give you a job!) lol Anyway - the biggest 'service' oriented work here outside the room is our group level committment to the Dept of Corrections facilities and programs in the area. I'm a State licenced reading tutor (adult and child) and although I don't meet the state criteria for speaking to inmates (requires one year in a Program) I *can* 'get in' because of the reading tutor - ship. There are pre-release, drug rehab, women's centers, battered women's shelters, homeless women's shelters, re-integration programs ... all of which the hand and presence of AA is beneficial. What I choose to 'tutor' reading ... is not regulated. So I can walk into facilities where AA material is regulated ... and whip ouit a Big Book legally as required reading for the student. Ain't the Law grand? Either way - the hand of AA *can* be there. heh.
