*~*~*~*~*^ Big Book Quote ^*~*~*~*~* "The minute we put our work on a service plane, the alcoholic commences to rely upon our assistance rather than upon God. He clamors for this or that, claiming he cannot master alcohol until his material needs are cared for. Nonsense. Some of us have taken very hard knocks to learn this truth: Job or no job — wife or no wife — we simply do not stop drinking so long as we place dependence upon other people ahead of dependence on God." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, Working With Others, pg. 98~

The Big Book time and time again points us in one direction, towards God, or the realm of the spirit if you prefer. Any notion that I can keep myself or anyone else sober is delusional, I love the ABC's on pg#60, particularly point B: "That probably no human power could have relieved our alcoholism" I write a lot of inventory, I find it shows me my truth. anytime I am placing my reliance on things human or external, it adressess my current level of agnosticism. 2nd step proposition poses the question. God is everything or he is nothing, What was our choice to be" At the time I said everything, however, now that life has gotten amazing as the results of working the steps and clearing away 9th step ammends it is sometimes Life on "Rob's terms" Today I am responsible for my spiritual fitness, if I am relying or encouraging others to rely on things human, I am headed for the middle of the road which is not a safe place for this drunk to be. My marching orders are to Trust God, Clean House, and Help Others, it amazes me how quickly I can fall into that strange mental blank spot and forget this, thank God that I am surrounded by people in my home group that love me enough to hold me accountable.Thank you for this post Carol, it was a good reminder.
