BB Quote....Comments?

*~*~*~*~*^ Big Book Quote ^*~*~*~*~*

"Next we launched out on a course of vigorous action, the first step
of which is a personal housecleaning, which many of us had never
attempted. Though our decision was a vital and crucial step, it
could have little permanent effect unless at once followed by a
strenuous effort to face, and to be rid of, the things in ourselves
which had been blocking us. Our liquor was but a symptom. So we had
to get down to causes and conditions.

Therefore, we started upon a personal inventory. This was Step Four."

~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, How It Works, pg. 63~

It is so weird how this is true, how the rationalizations about things I have done put a 'block' within me that really does cancel out 'the sunlight of the spirit' or something. I was just thinking, before I came in here...there was a huge flamewar on another site that I frequent about AA, and with some folks launching all kinds of attacks on it (and many members with decades of sobriety defending it) and I started thinking that all it is is just a few principles handed down for centuries. Essentially the golden rule, and if you harm someone, make it right. That simple, plus service work. Not really that controversial, but people want to make it so. And the block is something that I didn't even know how to fix until AA. And no therapist I've ever encountered has really helped me with that. Only in AA did I get asked to be accountable.
