I just read this yesterday. It is interesting to me how closely some of the early members of alcoholics anonymous worked with psychiatrists and institutions in searching for a cure for their alcoholism, since so many were very low-bottom drunks and were institutionalized. It helps to remember that nowadays since so many alcoholics have a secondary diagnosis as well (or even a third and fourth).
