| Preacher vs AA.
An old timer shared in a meeting last night that his preacher had come up to him and told him "T you don't need to go to AA anymore, I have a book for you with all the answers you need." Big T said he said to the preacher "I know you are talking about the Bible, but I have a question for you, if I called you at 3AM in the morning and told you I need a drink real bad what would you tell me?" The preacher replied "I would tell you to pray about it." Big T replied "And what would you tell me to do if I told you I had been praying about it already for a day and a half and still needed a drink?", the preacher replied "I don't know T." Big T said he put his arm over the preachers shoulder and told him "That is why I still need AA, I need the support of people who understand my problem."

right on! I faced very similar challenges in my faith because I am ordained in a ministry, and I counsel others in spiritual crisis. My own supervisor/teacher who is not alcoholic and who does not fully understand or even accept it as a disease (please. not THAT debate, again!) often suggests that now I should be able to have the oz of red wine that is ceremonial, etc...since I am cured. Ahhhh..... thats where I fell a few years ago. Glad that when I got back up, AA was there. And still is.

Man it really scares me that there is clergy out there telling people that they don't need AA. Shiver...
