Many moons ago...when I didn't "need" a sponsor...someone gave me a t-shirt with this on it!!!! Still have it!! Imagine the nerve!!! Boy was I mad when I received this "gift"!!! Didn't take me too long and I found it pretty darned funny though! I suppose at some point I have let go of that resentment!!! Thanks for the reminder, Music!!! Jen |

Taiman, I could be wrong, but I believe in the early days a person was sponsored into the group-in other words, you couldn't go to the meeting until you were qualified and made a surrender. Then in the early hospital days in Akron and later Cleveland, a man was hospitilized and during his stay, he would take the steps with his sponsor. But it wasn't the hospita'sl requirement. I think Sister Ignatia had a lot to do with it, though. When AA took off in Cleveland, that was the beginning of real Big Book based sponsorship. By the way, no where in the book is the word used. No where in the book does it tell you to get a sponsor, but it teaches you how to be a sponsor. Jim
