and remember
if you drink, as you come out of a blackout, you can always blame your sponsor
or
you can sit at the bar, guzzling beers, telling everyone AA is bull
and
then you can go sit int he back of a meeting feeling sorry for yourself

RENT-A-SPONSOR
major credit cards not accepted
so leave your American Express at home
it's a gift

Funny, though !

Many moons ago...when I didn't "need" a sponsor...someone gave me a t-shirt with this on it!!!! Still have it!! Imagine the nerve!!! Boy was I mad when I received this "gift"!!!

Didn't take me too long and I found it pretty darned funny though! I suppose at some point I have let go of that resentment!!!

Thanks for the reminder, Music!!!

This piece is always good for a laugh but let's not forget that sponsorship was a hospital's mandate, not AA's. AA just adopted it.

Taiman,
I could be wrong, but I believe in the early days a person was sponsored into the group-in other words, you couldn't go to the meeting until you were qualified and made a surrender.

Then in the early hospital days in Akron and later Cleveland, a man was hospitilized and during his stay, he would take the steps with his sponsor. But it wasn't the hospita'sl requirement. I think Sister Ignatia had a lot to do with it, though.

When AA took off in Cleveland, that was the beginning of real Big Book based sponsorship. By the way, no where in the book is the word used. No where in the book does it tell you to get a sponsor, but it teaches you how to be a sponsor.
