Sure i have the option to drink or not..TODAY.....TODAY i choose not to drink....Alcohol is POISON to me... I tried to kill myself back in Aug 90 because i couldnt control my cravings for POISON.... The CHOICE for me TODAY IS SOBRIETY... RECOVERY. ID rather share my experiences. strengths and hopes here with u guys in the privacy and safety of my own home and off the streets. Ill take this anytime than to me drinking and driving trying to kill someone or myself again. Thanks for letting me share.

Of course, that option is there. But it's like the option to put a gun to my head. It's an option but one I choose not to consider. So I like to think of it as drinking/drugs are not an option for me. I choose not to accept them as an option.

It's like an option to commit suicide painfully and slowly - of course I can. But for what!? Today I choose the option of being clean and serene...it's not always perfect, but boy oh boy it's wonderful to have the opportunity to live without fear and guilt...or at least in manageable doses, lol! I mean that is the option! Amazing!!! |

When I started this poll it was because some of the old timers get mad at you here when YOU state that you choose to not have the option today. They want you to know that you will always have that option to drink or not. But for me and my mind if I leave room to have that option than I set myself up, I don't need that in my life. I have the freedom to choose that is what clean time has given me. When I was using, we don't have that choice so today, I am happy that I can choose what works for me. Love Vic This kind of reminds me of the thread that I started about Russian roulette I mean people didn't like that thread but hey this is not a game this is life or death.

Depends on whether you have lost the power of choice. A choice is defined as two or more reasonable options. In active alcoholism, there is no choice but to drink. In the sunlight of the spirit, there is no choice to drink because God has removed the problem. |

We all have the option to choose to drink or use again, but we make the choice not to exercise that option because we don't like the probable outcome... Hang loose, Doc.

That is one of the reasons that I put Quote:
If you tell that to a few old timers here where I live and other places I am talking about 20 plus years they will tell you that you don't know sh!t about recovery, to keep your own coments to yourself. They will also say that if it isn't in the first 164 AA Big Book or the first 103 NA Basic Text, then there isn't anything to it. However then they jump right to the 417 4th Edition AA big Book and want to talk about acceptance. Just

For me, I do not have an option to drink. There is no option. I do have the right to choose however. I choose no option. I think you are right though, semantics, or how you skew the perspective. I always thought that it was my option, then it wasn't. Then my sponsor told me that it was an option, if I chose it. Now I'm really confused. Today, plain and simple, I don't drink because it is a bad idea. In that sense, I like to few it as I have no choice, don't drink.

| I really don't quite understand the question... Using/drinking is always an option for me. Today I choose to remain drug and alcohol free. The only way that it would not be an option, is if I were placed in a rubber room somewhere...or sent to live on the moon... I can say that in certain times...I've "thought" about using...but I never acted on those thoughts. In fact, I used to drive by the dope dealers house everyday on my way to a meeting... I always knew that I could decide to stop there instead. But I made a conscious decision to go to a NA or an AA meeting instead. In fact, I thought about going out drinking to celebrate my 1 year clean from dope... but I didn't cause I know that I could just as easily be an alcoholic...

just thought of this the theory is "once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic' in a sense and i remember when i was drinking it was more like "a need" i nnever went to a bar and said "to drink or not to drink" or walking into a deli "now i have an option to buy a colt 45 or a diet coke" it was like "hey, hey, down the hatch" it wasn't till i got the message that i didn't have to live that way anymore best fraankie |
