Hi, im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic. The miracles in our program do not simply "rub off" at meetings. The key to sobriety and cleanness is willingness to act. Just sitting at meetings waiting for something to "rub off" is not going to produce results. So the something that we hope will "rub off" is not a miracle, but a willingness to act. Once the willingness to do something appears, the miracles come. "Action is the Magic Word." We must not wait for the "rub off" but to act as soon as possible. Have you learned to act urself into better ways?

Great thread, Sharon! Here are some of the "acting" I ve learned. ALWAYS welcome the newcomer, giving a hug, shaking thier hand, ALWAYS! Perform service for the group of people who saved my life - my fellowship. (Im about to take a big position for Alateen) Pick up the phone and call for help when need be. No humility problems anymore for me..when I need it, I ask for it. Get off my azz and on my knees.....daily prayer/meditation. just some actions I gratefully take to stay emotionally sober. |

Sharon, Yes, I agree willingness is a key to recovery. Unfortunately, I am not always willing to do what I need to do. Pain is a big motivator for me. I become willing as a result of hurting myself or others. Sometimes I am motivated by the desire to be a better person, but I usually I just want to make the pain go away. |

Thank you guys for sharing ur thoughts on this topic TODAY. Much appreciated. : ) The question is often asked,"How does the program work?" The HOW of this program is Honesty, Open-mindness and Willingness; sometimes we even have to pray to be willing! We have very stuborn wills, but sur- rendered on a daily basis, they can ac- complish much good for us and for others. Surely those who say,"I will, I will," and don't are not close to the heart of their HP, and those who say,"I will not," but do! ARE YOU WILLING?
