| Put that bottle down papa
Put that bottle down papa
don't you know it's killin you?
put that bottle down papa
I will see you through
we can run away from here
I'll take care of you
Don't you cry papa
it'll be okay
the sun will come out again
I'll help you
wipe those tears away
Put that bottle down papa
don't you know it's killin you?
I know how much you're hurtin
that you're feelin
like you're not a man
feelin you can't stop drinkin
but I'm tellin you papa
I'm tellin you
that You Can!
You get sober papa
and we'll hit the road
just get in the car and drive
and tell each other every day
Damn!! it's good to be alive
put that bottle down papa
don't you know it's killin you?
*******************************
I was eight years old when I thought I could save my father from all his pain. We did take off once and drove all over the country, just the two of us. It was short lived, and we went home again, and he never put the bottle down until it killed him. I wrote this awhile ago when I was revisiting
my feelings of how "running" became such a big part of my life.
Haven't been here in over a year. I'm clean and hope everybody is keeping it together; and if you're not that's okay too.
