The pain hasn't gone away, but it's time for a change:
I'm a 36 year old woman who has been having severe, daily migraine headaches for over six years. I take Fiorinal regularly, but it doesn't ever really kill the pain...it just makes it liveable and allows me to function. My doctor has me on a short leash however, and when I do run out of pain meds, like now, I can barely function at all. The pain just increases...it never stops. I've seen every doctor imaginable, all to no avail. My doctor finally sent me to a pain clinic and the doctor there recommended shots in the neck and pain psychotherapy...all of which were denied by my insurance. Not to mention I'm terrified of the shots.
To make a long story short...my fiance is a recovering addict (17 years)...I need to make a change...both for his life, his son's and my own. I know I've become addicted to the drugs because I take them at times when I don't even need them. I plan to attend an NA meeting for the first time this week and I'm writing this post as testimony of my intent. I know though, the pain will persist...I just need to find another way to treat it. I've done Physical therapy...had MRI's, seen neurologists, tried Emitrex, Zomig, Neurontin, Depakote to name just a few. Has anyone else successfully treated chronic headaches without using narcotics? Any advice would be welcomed

Thanks so much. Shannon
