I realize that that is the overall tone/meaning in the piece but that introductory paragraph doesn't read that way to me at all.

I keep reading it as "alcoholism rarely exists/continues for those in isolation from others" ...not, that others may play a part in exacerbating an already existing issue. I keep interpreting it to mean that enablers help CREATE the addiction, no matter how many times I read it.

Guess I'm being too literal today; I'll come back to this when I'm less defensive about the wording, lol.
