ARE you sure? What does the prescribing physician think about you getting off the med? I always get concerned when folks want to get off their antidepressants. Would you rather be "strange and detached?" I mean, if the stuff is not causing you problems, why not stay on it? I'm not clear on why you think you'd be better off without it.
But if you are tapering off, you're right, your brain is going to be telling you need it because you have been on it for so long. Tapering slowly is part of the solution. The other part is just knowing that you ARE going to be a little off for a while and putting up with it. I wish you all the best whichever way you decide!
