I am making my amends as well. I know I have to be careful, though, not to seek forgiveness except from myself. However, you are right. The feeling you get when you can look someone in the eye, admit your wrong-doings (most of which they already knew anyway), and show that you are ready to change is truly rewarding. It is difficult, yes. But also a true gift. With my family, for me, it was also opening the door for them to be able to speak openly with me about the pain I had caused.
