| Gastric Bypass Surgery
I'm not sure if anyone on this board has actually had the surgery, but I wanted to give my input as a person who has had it.
I had my surgery about 18 months ago, thinking it would solve all my problems. I researched it extensively, choose a good hospital, underwent counseling before hand. Did everything I was supposed to do.
When I had the surgery, I thought that I wouldn't be able to drink again. WRONG! Although I had a problem with alcohol before surgery, the WLS made it SO MUCH WORSE. You have no stomach to process alcohol anymore, it goes directly into your bloodstream. Which means you get drunk and lose your judgement about immediately. You would think that would mean you'd stop. Well, not if you have any sort of predisposition to alcholism.
Also, I know many people that have transferred addictions and turn to alcohol/drugs/shopping since they can no longer eat. And then there are those that just "eat thru the surgery" and regain all their weight.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I saw some questions about it and I wanted to give my story.
