I do highly recommend that you see a mental health professional.
General Practice is not the place to go for mental illness.
If nothing else go to a free women's clinic for counseling, if nothing else (they usually specialize in abuse related issues) and they will understand you are reacing out for help..they can probably refer you to an income based therapist or other options.

Glad your friend is taking you.
One time I took my daughter with me and she totally ratted me out good for her! Our sense of shame urges us to gloss things over.
