My experience with relationships is nothing to boast about. However, despair is something I had a lot of during my first year of sobriety. What I found was it was more of a
step 10 issue. When I started using the following directions from the step 10 section of the Big Book, most of my emotional issues were relieved:
"Continue to watch for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear. When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them. We discuss them with someone immediately and make amends quickly if we have harmed anyone. Then we resolutely turn our thoughts to someone we can help. Love and tolerance of others is our code."
