I, too, understand using food as a means to calm and soothe. I've done it for years. I'm now maintaining a 100 pound plus weight loss and have learned new coping mechanisms and strategies instead of relying on food. I try to look at solving my anxiety at the root, rather than surpress the symptoms with food.
You will find supportive folks in this thread. Take a look at the 100 Obvious Sweets challenge. I post regularly in that thread and use the ESH of others to help me avoid using food in an inappropriate (and unhealthy) way for me.
