From what I know about AA, I can't picture myself participating in that format, and right now due to squandering every paycheck at the bar I don't have a lot of money to attend professional counseling.

I recognize there's a problem and know if I walk into a bar during the work week there's a better than average chance I won't make it to work the next day no matter what my preconceived plan is.
As you seem to understand that you need help, and don't seem to have many options, why don't you try to have an open mind and give AA a try. Nobody is going to force you. Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't. What's the worst thing that can happen? Why discount something that you've never tried? Take care.
