I just did a Google search on "alcoholism triathlon" & found this wonderful site. I am looking to get back into triathlon & use it as an outlet for my energy & OCD. I competed in them & gave it up 4 or 5 years ago because of the money and time, as I have 3 young kids. I have always been active & competive; but the wheels have really fallen off since I gave it & other physical endeavors up. I am finally sober & looking to get back to the real me.
I have long had a goal of doing the Ironman, but am weary of the time committment needed & taking on such an endeavor "for me" at the expense of my family. The ruthless training is a much better vice than the booze, but I am perplexed. I am 38 & set a goal for myself years ago to do one by age 40. It is a tough call.
Originally with my Google search, I was hoping to find an on-line triathlon group of others living with alcoholism who had similiar interests. I also enjoy trail running, snow-shoeing, & cyclocross.
Any advice out there?
