| In Control
Key Passage: Luke 9:21-27
Topic: God's Care
"The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised." (Luke 9:22, ESV)
What do you see in today's verse? Is it a depressing statement? Does it cause you to worry? After all, if your best friend said the same thing, wouldn't you be a tad concerned?
Do you ever feel like Jesus was losing control when He was crucified? His ministry had been going great when suddenly a friend betrays Him, the Pharisees get their hands on Him, and things seemed to spiral out of control, ultimately ending in Jesus' death. That's not the case at all.
If nothing else, this verse should encourage us that nothing ever happened to Jesus that He didn't want to happen. He didn't just know beforehand what would happen; it was planned beforehand--and yes, there is a difference.
So why would Jesus plan on dying like this? That's a great question, and many of these insights seek to answer that. But for now remember this: that nothing happens outside of God's control.
No, not every day is full of sunshine and smiles. But every day can be lived under the assurance that evil is not winning and that God will protect and guide those who follow Him.
